What a German Schlüsseldienst does
Schlüsseldienst is the German word for a locksmith service. It is a private business, not a public authority: neither the police nor the fire brigade come out for a door that has simply fallen shut. You call a locksmith yourself and pay for the job on the spot.
Your landlord, hall of residence or Hausverwaltung (property manager) may hold a spare key, but those offices are only staffed during office hours. In the evening or at the weekend, a locksmith is normally the fastest way back into your flat.
Latched or locked?
Please check this before you call. If the door fell shut behind you, only the latch is holding it — that opening is usually quick and in most cases causes no damage. If you turned the key and the door is properly locked (in German: abgeschlossen), the bolts are extended. That takes longer, and additional labour costs are added on top of the callout price.

All prices include 19 % German VAT, plus a callout fee. Not included: extra labour for difficult openings, in particular doors that are locked rather than just latched, plus any fitting work after the opening and materials.

How a call-out works
You get the price
We name the price and the expected arrival time before we set out. A quote always comes before the work.
We drive out
Within the Aachen city area we are usually with you in about 30 minutes.
The door opens
We work as gently as possible and open without damage wherever the lock allows it. You pay on the spot.
Key lost rather than left inside?
Then the opening is only half the job. If the key could be traced to your address, a new lock cylinder is the safer choice. Our technician looks at the lock on site and names the price before fitting anything.

When you can reach us
Sunday to Thursday from 08:00 to midnight, Friday and Saturday from 08:00 to 02:00. Public holidays are handled like a Sunday: 08:00 to midnight.
How you pay
You pay the technician at your door: in cash, by EC card (the German debit card) or by credit card. A bank transfer is possible on request.

It is the German word for a locksmith service: a private company that opens doors, replaces locks, cuts keys and fits security hardware. You call it yourself and pay for the callout yourself.
What does it cost to open my door?
Monday to Friday between 08:00 and 17:00 a door opening costs 75 euros, in the evening 100 euros and after 22:00 it is 125 euros. On Saturday it is 100 euros, from 14:00 as well as on Sundays and public holidays 125 euros. All prices include VAT and come plus a callout fee.
